One person died when fire swept through the Whispering Willow Boarding School on December 19, 1952. Twenty-nine others escaped the blaze. |

This fire claimed the life of an elderly woman and destoyed two houses on Dale Street January 25, 1954.

This Lincoln Street home was destroyed by fire on March 28, 1955. Assistant Chief Smith sustained serious head injuries when a large wooden gutter fell on top of him.He would have to retire from these injuries. |

American Biltrite Rubber Company: General Alarm
This general alarm fire took place on July 3, 1958 at the American Biltrite Rubber Company on Washington Street. Four firemen were injured battling this blaze, including one who was knocked off the ladder to the well involved roof below.

Murphy Coal: General Alarm
At 1:30 pm on April 6, 1963 box 73 was struck for a fire at the Murphy Coal Company. Within five minutes a general alarm was struck bringing twenty-one pieces of equipment to the scene. There was approximately five hundred tons of coal along with one hundred thousand gallons of fuel oil that had to be protected. |
